Ohio State’s Hugo Di Feo defeated Texas freshman Christian Sigsgaard 7-6 (4), 6-0 in the semifinals of the ITA All-American Championships Sunday in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
33rd-ranked Di Feo will face 8th-ranked Petros Chrysochos of Wake Forest in the final on Monday.
Sigsgaard broke Di Feo’s serve early in the first set and held serve to take a 3-0 lead. Di Feo rallied with a service break and managed to tie it at 3-3. The set went into a tiebreaker and Di Feo quickly went ahead 5-1. He won the tiebreaker 7-4 and blanked Sigsgaard 6-0 in the second set.
Sigsgaard, a native of Naestved, Denmark, went 11-1 at the tournament and topped five players ranked in the top 65. His biggest upsets came against 12th-ranked Konrad Zieba of Northwestern in the round of 64 and 13th-ranked Florian Lakat of California in the quarterfinals.
