Scouting the Fabulous 55: No. 42, quarterback Zadock Dinkelmann

The Somerset quarterback had it all — the size, the pedigree, even a pledge to play for LSU — until Les Miles left, that is.

Scouting Dinkelmann: Dinkelmann was committed to LSU before his high school career even started. As an eighth grader, he received a scholarship offer from Les Miles and committed to the Tigers in 2014. He remained an LSU pledge until Miles was let go and LSU hired a new head coach. Dinkelmann de-committed, and it’s still unknown what kind of interest the big-bodied quarterback will receive after missing his 2015 season with an injury. As a junior in 2016, he helped Somerset reach the third round of the Class 4A playoffs for the second time in school history and passed for nearly 2,000 yards.

Dinkelmann is a throwback quarterback of sorts. He’s not a dual-threat quarterback, though he moves around the pocket well and can hurt a defense if it loses contain on a blitz. Dinkelmann looks like what we thought NFL quarterbacks had to look like: He’s big, tall, has a strong arm and is accurate when his lower-body mechanics are in rhythm. The physical gifts, and pedigree, are there; his grandfather is Sonny Detmer, who also happens to be his head coach at Somerset.
