Aggies land another five-star recruit

Posted June 19th, 2014

It appears it’s going to take far more than Johnny Manziel leaving College Station for the momentum to slow down at Texas A&M.

Less than a month after the Aggies landed five-star Allen quarterback Kyler Murray, they snagged the verbal commitment of the top wide receiver in Texas, Cedar Hill’s Demarkus Lodge.

“Proud to say I’ll be attending TEXAS A&M for my college experience!” he said in a tweet early Thursday afternoon.

The pledge of the 6-foot-2, 190-pound receiver gives Texas A&M three of the state’s top five recruits in the 2015 class, with Murray and Gladewater defensive tackle Daylon Mack already on board.

247Sports composite rankings rates Lodge as the the 35th overall player and the No. 4 receiver in the country. He is currently holding down the 35th and final five-star slot given by the composite ranking.

As a junior in 2013, Lodge is credited with 72 receptions for 1,255 yards and 22 touchdowns. He helped lead Cedar Hill to the 5A Division II state championship, scoring two touchdowns and totaling 150 total yards in the championship game win over Katy.

A&M’s class, which now stands at 16 verbal commitments, is ranked second in the country by 247Sports composite rankings, and its three five-star pledges are more than any other program.

UPDATE: Hours after Lodge verbally committed to Texas A&M, his Cedar Hill teammate Richard Moore followed suit.

Moore, a three-star linebacker, is listed as the 75th overall player in the state by 247Sports composite rankings. He chose Texas A&M over offers from Baylor, Arizona State, Colorado and others.

He brings A&M’s class to 17 non-binding verbal commitments, tied for the third-largest class in the country behind Alabama and Clemson.
