Texas signees selected to Naismith Trophy list

The Atlanta Tipoff Club named Texas woman’s basketball signees Lashann Higgs of Cedar Ridge High School in Round Rock and Jordan Hosey of Manvel to the Naismith Trophy Girl’s High School Player of the Year Watch List on Tuesday. The preseason list includes 20 of the best high school prospects in the nation.

Since 1987, the Naismith Trophy recognizes the national player and coach of the year in the high school and college ranks, as well as outstanding achievement in officiating and contributions to the game.

Higgs, a 5-foot-9 guard, is the sixth-ranked prospect in the class of 2015 by Hosey, a 6-foot-1 forward who led Manvel High School to a Texas UIL Class 5A state title last season, is the eighth-ranked prospect in the class of 2015


Higgs, Hosey and forward Christina Aborowa (Ondo, Nigeria) signed national letters of Intent to play at Texas on Nov. 12.

Noteworthy: Senior forward Nneka Enemkpali and junior center Imani McGee-Stafford were named to the college Naismith Trophy Watch List on Dec. 10….. Last season, freshman Ariel Atkins was named to the Naismith Trophy high school watch list… Clarissa Davis (1986-89) won the Naismith Trophy twice for the Longhorns as a sophomore (1987) and a senior (1989).
