Former Texas assistant coach Bruce Chambers has been hired as an assistant athletic director by the Arlington school district.

Chambers had been with the Longhorns since the 1998 season, but he was not retained by coach Charlie Strong after the 2014 campaign. Prior to his stint with UT, Chambers coached at Carter in the Dallas ISD from 1984-97.

The Arlington ISD, which announced the hiring on Wednesday, touted the fact that Chambers coached Heisman Trophy winner Ricky Williams and recruited and coached Vince Young, Cedric Benson and Jamaal Charles.

Chambers will assist with boys sports, swimming, tennis, ROTC and secondary physical education, the district said. Kim Peach, a former Arlington ISD assistant principal, was also hired to help with girls sports.
