After a two-hour weather delay, the Texas Longhorns and Oregon St. Beavers played to a 1-1 double overtime draw at Mike A. Myers Stadium on Thursday night. It was just the second time the women’s soccer teams have met, with Oregon St. taking the first match 1-0 in 2013.

Lindsey Meyer scored on a penalty kick in the first half, but an equalizing goal by Helene Haavik with just three seconds left before the halftime whistle knotted the game up.

The unbeaten Beavers had the first real chance in the 15th minute as Annie Govig had a shot go high. Overall the Beavers held a 16-13 shots advantage, with six of those shots on goal. The Longhorns had four shots on frame.

Meyer’s goal in the 19th minute was set up by a foul in the box committed against Kayra Dollas. It was the senior’s first goal of the year as she became the fourth Longhorn to score so far this season.

The Beavers nearly answered midway through the first half but they couldn’t cash in off Mariah Roggow’s effort.

Oregon St. penetrated the back line to equalize with just three seconds to spare in the first half as Abby Smith came off her line and was unable to make the save against Haavik. Just seconds earlier Smith had saved a shot by Allison Pantuso which looked like the last chance for the Beavers before halftime. Smith ended the game with five saves.

The Longhorns earned two early corner kicks and finished the game with a 6-2 edge. Neither team cashed in from the set pieces.

Oddly enough, the undefeated Beavers went without a win last season on their way to an 0-17-3 record. They’re now 4-0-2 following Thursday’s result while the Longhorns move to 2-2-2.

Texas will next take on Abilene Christian on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Myers Stadium. The game will be televised on the Longhorn Network.
