Texas women’s golf team tied for 7th place at Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown

UT’s Sophia Schubert carded a 4-under-par 68 as the Longhorns shot 9 under par in the second round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown at Boulder Creek Golf Club on Monday in Las Vegas.

San Jose State leads at 26 under par, four shots ahead of second-place Michigan. Texas moved into a tie for seventh place at 14 under. The Longhorns were tied for 10th after shooting a 5-under-par 283 in the first round. Seventeen of the 19 teams competing are under par.

San Jose State’s My Leander followed her opening-round 65 with a 67 and is in the lead at 12 under. Tennessee’s Anna Newell shot a 65 Monday and is second at 11 under.


Schubert made four birdies in a bogey-free round to move up to a tie for 11th place at 7 under. Her 69 in the first round had left her tied for 18th going into the day. UT’s Tezira Abe had four birdies and a double-bogey to finish with a 70; she is tied for 26th at 4 under. Texas’ Julia Beck shot a 75 after carding a 70 in the first round and is tied with teammates Haley Mills and Maddie Luitwieler at 1 over par. Mills shot 2 under in the second round, and Luitwieler was 1 under.
