Texas men’s tennis team notches five victories at Country Club of Birmingham Collegiate Invitational

The Longhorns won three singles matches and had a doubles team advance to the finals at the Country Club of Birmingham Collegiate Invitational on Friday in Alabama.

UT’s Julian Zlobinsky won in three sets against Alabama-Birmingham’s Oliver Poysti 4-6, 6-1, 7-5, and Texas’ William Jou edged Alabama’s Hayes Brewer 6-1, 1-6, 6-3. Longhorn Adrian Ortiz defeated Middle Tennessee State’s Ayed Zatar in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.

Ortiz and Zlobinsky advanced to the finals of the Crimson doubles draw after a 8-5 win over Louisville’s George Hedley and Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff in the semifinals. The duo defeated Tulane’s Chi-Shan Jao and Tyler Schick in the quarterfinals 8-7 (5).


Ortiz and Zlobinsky will face LSU’s Gabor Csonka and Tam Trinh in Saturday’s finals at 9 a.m.
