2017 commit QB Sam Ehlinger named national player of the year

The accolades keep coming for 2017 Texas commit Sam Ehlinger. The junior quarterback from Westlake High School was tabbed MaxPreps’ National Junior of the Year Wednesday.

Ehlinger, who was previously named the Associated Press’ Texas Player of the Year in December, threw for 3,833 yards, rushed for 1,419 yards and was responsible for 71 total touchdowns in 2015. He led the Chaparrals to the state title game, where Westlake lost to Galena Park North Shore 21-14 in overtime. Westlake’s march to the state title game included a win over Allen High, breaking that school’s 57-game winning streak.
