Texas junior Tiarra Davis threw a one-hit shutout as the 24th-ranked Longhorns routed Ball State 8-0 Saturday at the Houston Hilton Plaza Invitational.

Davis struck out eight batters and walked one through five innings to improve to 5-0. Her only blemish was a single by Rachel Houck in the first inning.

UT’s Celina Felix hit a three-run homer in the third inning to put Texas ahead, and a five-run fourth inning by the Longhorns provided the final margin.

Texas (8-0) has outscored opponents 38-4 in its three games at the event, with two more to go Sunday against Toledo at 11:30 a.m. and Houston at 2 p.m.

The loss dropped Ball State to 2-6. The Cardinals also lost to the Longhorns 13-2 Friday.

UT’s Kelli Hanzel started the rally in the fourth with a two-run homer that put Texas up by five. Lindsey Stephens hit a double to score Stephanie Wong, and a pinch-hit RBI single by Holly Kern gave Texas a seven-run edge. Taylor McAllister’s sacrifice fly brought in the final run.

Wong was 2 for 3 with a run scored, and Stephens was 1 for 2 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Davis got a groundout and then struck out the last two batters in the bottom of the fifth to get the run-rule victory.
