Where it went wrong: It went wrong in numerous places — not just one. Cal scored two runs in the top of the third inning and two more in the top of the fifth. The Longhorns (5-4) struggled to get runners on base throughout the game, putting only two on through seven innings. The Horns had a rally opportunity in the eighth when they loaded the bases with one out, but Kody Clemens grounded into a double play to end the inning.

The Starter: Nolan Kingham struggled in his first career start. In four innings, Texas’ freshman pitcher allowed eight hits and was tagged for four runs. He allowed a runner in every inning and never found a rhythm or control of the game.

Top Hitter: Kacy Clemens, 1-3, HR, RBI.

Key Stat: Texas only had six baserunners in the game.
