UT’s Beau Hossler shot 5 under par through two rounds to take the lead at the San Diego Lamkin Classic on Monday and help Texas tie for first place heading into Tuesday’s final round.
Hossler had an eagle, six birdies and five bogeys in the first round to card a 3-under 69 and closed with a 2-under par 70. The junior has shot under par in 14 of his 17 rounds this season and holds a two stroke lead over Middle Tennessee State’s Hoyeong Kim.
Texas’ Taylor Funk carded the lowest round of his collegiate career in the first round after making six birdies and four bogeys to finish at 2 under. He followed with an even par 72 and is tied for third place with San Diego State’s Nahum Mendoza.
The Longhorns shot 285 and 289 and are tied with Arizona State at 2 under par. The Sun Devils shot 1 under par in both rounds and have three players in the top ten.
UT’s Gavin Hall is tied for 12th place after shooting a 1-under 71 and a 2-over 74. Longhorns Scottie Scheffler and Doug Ghim are tied for 26th place at 5 over par.
