The Texas Longhorns women’s tennis team had three singles wins, but losing the doubles point proved to be the difference as the Kansas Jayhawks won the match 4-3 in Lawrence, Kan. on Friday.
Smith Hinton and Anastasiya Rychagova defeated Katie Poluta and Lana Groenvynck 6-0 before Maria Jose Cardona and Summer Collins bested Neda Koprcina and Daniella Roldan 6-3 for the doubles point.
Koprcina tied the match at 1-1 with a 6-2, 7-6 victory over Hinton at second singles before Breaunna Addison gave Texas a 2-1 lead with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Rychagova.
Two straight wins put the Jayhawks back in front 3-2 as Janet Koch defeated Dani Wagland 6-3, 7-6 and Nina Khmelnitckaia defeated Poluta 7-5, 1-6, 7-5.
Roldan kept the Longhorns alive with a 6-4, 6-7, 6-2 win over Collins, but Cardona closed out the match with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Groenvynck.
The Longhorns next face Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan. on Sunday at 11 a.m.
