Longhorns men’s golf team wins fourth tournament

The No. 4 Texas men’s golf team picked up their fourth win in five tries as they finished in first place at the Valspar Collegiate in Palm City, Fla. on Tuesday.

The Longhorns shot 855, 3-over to finish five strokes ahead of second place LSU. Texas A&M and Oklahoma State finished in a tie for third place at 19-over.

Doug Ghim led the Longhorns, shooting 212 to finish in a tie for third place at 1 under par, just one shot behind medalist Zach Wright of LSU. Ghim shot a season-low 68 in the final round of competition as he made four birdies to help him climb ten spots in the standings.


Beau Hossler and Gavin Hall finished in a tie for eighth place at 214, 1 over par. Hossler, along with Ghim, had the best final round for the Longhorns, shooting 68, 3-under on the day. Hossler, the top-ranked collegiate, bounced back from a second-round 74 on Monday to complete his 10th-straight top-20 finish. Hall has finished in the top ten four times this season.

Scottie Scheffler shot a 72 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 25th while Taylor Funk tied for 36th place, shooting a 78 in the final round.

Steven Chervony competed as an individual for Texas and finished in a tie for 72nd.

The Longhorns will next compete in the Augusta Collegiate Invitational beginning on April 2.
