Tres Barrera named Big 12 player of the week

Posted March 28th, 2016

Texas’ Tres Barrera has been named the Big 12 baseball player of the week after hitting three home runs in four games.

Barrera batted 6-for-15 (.400), drove in seven runs, and scored five runs as UT ran up a 3-1 record with a win over UTSA and a series victory over TCU. This is Barrera’s first Big 12 award since 2014 when he twice was named newcomer of the week.

Barrera came into the week without a home run before hitting one out against UTSA on Tuesday. He then hit a solo blast in Friday’s 2-0 win over TCU and another one, a two-run bomb, in Saturday’s 9-5 loss.

Barrera also played well defensively as he transitioned from catcher to third base.

On the season, Barrera is hitting .318 with a team-high 18 RBI.
