UT’s Tiarra Davis held BYU to four hits in a 5-0 blanking of the Cougars and Paige von Sprecken limited BYU to two hits in a 7-0 rout as the Texas softball team swept a doubleheader and won the three-game series on Saturday night at McCombs Field.
Davis threw her 15th complete game of the season and had five strikeouts with one walk. von Sprecken improved to 8-1 with the two-hit shutout and went 3 for 3 in the second game.
UT’s Lindsey Stephens pummeled BYU pitchers McKenna Bull and Olivia Sanchez. She went 4 for 5 with a double, triple, home run, 4 runs scored and had 4 RBIs on Saturday.
Texas built a 5-0 edge in the first game with a two-out four-run rally in the fourth.
Randel Leahy started the rally with a two-run double to left to put Texas up by three. Stephens followed with an RBI double and Stephanie Wong pushed the lead to 5-0 with a RBI single. Sanchez gave up five runs on six hits with six strikeouts through six innings.
Davis, Stephens and von Sprecken provided all of the offense in the second game. Stephens went 2-2 with 3 RBIs and von Sprecken and Davis drove in two runs apiece.
Stephens hit a two run homer in the second inning that gave Texas a 3-0 lead and hit a RBI double in the fourth. The Longhorns scored three runs in the fifth when Davis hit a solo homer and von Sprecken knocked a two-run double.
Texas scored four runs on eight hits off Bull, who held the Longhorns to just one run in BYU’s 3-1 victory on Friday night. Sanchez took over in the fourth and allowed three runs on four hits through 1 2/3 innings.
