Longhorns women’s golf in seventh place after one round

Sophia Schubert shot a 69 to lead the Texas Longhorns women’s golf team to seventh place in the standings after the first round of the PING/ASU Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. on Friday.

The Longhorns shot 295 (+7) on the day and trail first place UCLA by 14 strokes.

Schubert made three birdies on the back nine, five overall, to finish the first round tied for third place.


Anne Hakula shot a 74 with three birdies on the day to finish in a tie for 30th place at 2 over par.

Julia Beck is 3-over after the first round, in a tie for 33rd place.

Haley Mills is tied for 47th at 5-over while Natalie Karcher is tied for 60th at 7 over par.

Bronte Law of UCLA is in first place after shooting an ASU Karsten Golf Course record low of 64 on Friday.

The Longhorns will resume action on Saturday at 10 a.m. as they tee off with Washington and Colorado.
