No. 25 Texas won four singles matches in straight sets to defeat Iowa State 4-2 Sunday afternoon at UT’s Weller Indoor Tennis Center.

Texas (14-6) improved to 6-2 in Big 12 play and has won five straight Big 12 matches.

Texas lost the doubles point, then evened the match when freshman Chelsea Crovetti  defeated Liera Bender at sixth singles 6-2, 6-2.

Katie Poluta’s 6-1, 6-1 win over Alejandra Galvis put Texas up 2-1, but the Cyclones knotted the match when Regina Espindola beat Texas freshman Daniella Roldan 6-0, 7-6.

UT’s Neda Koprcina took Breaunna Addison’s spot at first singles and defeated Sami Budai 7-5, 6-3. Texas ace Addison played a doubles match but didn’t compete in singles.

Dani Wagland sealed the team win with a 7-6 (4), 6-1 victory over Liza Buss at second singles.

“After losing the doubles point and having Breaunna Addison out for the singles, it suddenly became very hairy. I give our group all the credit in the world for hanging tough, fighting one-by-one and getting back to even, and then running out the winner.” said coach Howard Joffe.
