Schubert, Texas women’s golf place second at Big 12 Championship

Sophia Schubert shot 1-under par in the final round at the Big 12 Championship and placed second Sunday at the Dominion Club in San Antonio.

Texas had four players finish in the top 20 and finished in second place at 3 over par. Schubert and Julia Beck placed in the top five, the last time Texas had two players finish in the top five at the tournament was 2005.

“Individually, everyone contributed.” said coach Ryan Murphy. “And Julia and Sophia’s top-five finishes were just terrific in this field. We were close to putting it all together this week. We are gaining confidence and momentum. That’s what you want this time of year.”


Schubert tied Oklahoma’s Ana Ruiz for second at 3-under par. It was her third top 10 finish in her last four tournaments.

Oklahoma State’s Kenzie Neisen took medalist honors at 9 under and helped the Cowgirls take the team title at 8 under. Oklahoma State shot six under par in the final round and had three players in the top 10.

Beck carded a 2-under-par 70 on Sunday and tied for fifth at 1 under. Beck has placed in the top 10 three times this season. UT’s Natalie Karcher and Haley Mills tied for 19th place at 5 over.
