Texas shortstop Joe Baker is the Big 12 player of the week after he swung a hot stick in a series win at 10th-ranked Texas Tech.
Baker was especially key in Sunday’s 17-1 rout, going 4-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and six RBI. He also drew an intentional walk to load the bases.
Texas was 3-1 on the week, which also included a 7-5 win over UT Rio Grande Valley on Tuesday.
On the week, Baker was 7-for-15 and hit safely in all four games. This is the first Big 12 award for the sophomore and the third this season for Texas (Ty Culbreth, Tres Barrera).
With the win, Texas (19-21, 9-6) is now tied for third in the conference with Oklahoma State, which comes to Austin for three games this weekend. Meanwhile, leader Texas Tech (31-12, 12-3) will visit second-place TCU (28-10, 10-5).
