A 10-run third inning propeled the Texas Longhorns softball team to a resounding 15-2, five-inning win over the Iowa State Cyclones in Ames, Iowa, on Friday afternoon.
The Longhorns (35-14, 8-7 Big 12) hit four home runs while Tiarra Davis (21-9) allowed just one run on five hits in the series opener.
Kelli Hanzel went 2 for 4 with a homer and a career-high five RBIs. Her first career grand slam put the Longhorns up 8-0 in the third before Holly Kern’s three-run shot gave UT an 11-0 lead. Kern finished the game 1 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs.
Lindsey Stephens went 2 for 4 with a double, a first-inning home run and three runs scored. Celina Felix hit a homer, had two RBIs and scored two runs.
Iowa State (20-30, 1-12) committed four errors as Savannah Sanders (8-15) was hit with the loss. Kelsey McFarland was the lone bright spot for the Cyclones as she went 2 for 3 with two RBIs in the game.
