Instant Reaction: Texas falls to seven games below .500 with 3-2 loss to Texas State.

Where it went wrong: In the top of the eighth inning, Texas State’s Granger Studdard singled to center and then stole second. Tanner Hill singled to right and Patrick Mathis fumbled the ball in right, which led to Shuddard scoring from second. Mathis was charged with an error; Texas State took a 3-2 lead because of the error.

The Starter: Connor Mayes pitched two innings, struck out one and only allowed one hit. However, the one hit he allowed was a lead-off home run to Jonathan Ortega, who was 0-for-8 against the Horns this entire year.

Top Hitter: Tyler Rand, 2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI.


Key Stat: Texas committed three errors.

Next Game: 6 p.m., Thursday vs. Baylor.
