Longhorns struggle on first day of NCAA Championship

The Texas Longhorns women’s golf team struggled on the first day of the NCAA Championship and sit in 24th place after Friday’s competition at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.

The Longhorns shot 301, 13-over, on the day as Oklahoma St. shot 284, 4-under, for the top spot in the field of 24.

Texas was led by Haley Mills, who shot even in the first round for a tie for 29th place.


Julia Beck and Sophia Schubert tied for 85th place at 4-over par.

Natalie Karcher shot 77 for a tie for 101st place while Maddie Luitwieler shot 81 for a tie for 122nd place.

August Kim of Purdue and Haley Moore of Arizona are tied in first place after shooting 68, 4-under on the day.

The Longhorns will start the second round on Saturday at 3:06 p.m. with Alabama and Duke.
