Tom Herman gave a quick interview with ESPN this morning. Here’s what he had to say.
On his biggest challenge putting this class together after only two months on the job:
“Relationships. Recruiting is all about relationships, and no bigger testament to that fact than in a year of transition where it’s very difficult to build these relationships in basically two weeks in December and three weeks in January. It just doesn’t happen overnight like that, so we’ve made a very conscious effort to make sure the guys we do take in this class we do have great relationships with and know exactly what we’re getting.”
On what will make today a success:
“Well it already is. I think with the commitments we have that are not wavering, that we feel good about the class, that we didn’t reach on any guys, we didn’t chase stars because we felt that was the right thing to do. We settled in on what our needs were for this roster, went out and found the guys that we feel like that can contribute to winning championships here and went and got them. So it’s already a success as long as there are no surprises before my press conference at 2 o’clock.”
Texas, though, has missed out on the first of its three signing-day targets — Westlake offensive tackle Stephan Zabie has just picked UCLA over the Longhorns. Galena Park North Shore defensive end K’Lavon Chaisson and Florida wide receiver Jordan Pouncey have yet to announce.
