D’onta Foreman will be lonely Longhorn at NFL combine

Posted February 16th, 2017

The NFL has released its list of invited prospects for its annual scouting combine in Indianapolis. And Texas tailback D’onta Foreman is the lone Longhorn to receive an invitation.

He’s one of 30 running backs to be included. The Big 12 running backs invited include Foreman, West Virginia’s Rushel Shell, Oklahoma’s Samaje Perine and Oklahoma State’s Chris Carson.

Running backs are scheduled to arrive in Indy, Feb. 28. Along with special teamers and offensive linemen, they’ll go through interviews and medical testing. Then they’ll begin actual workouts for the scouts, March 2. Running backs will do the bench press on the 2nd, then begin the running and agility drills the next day. They’re the first to arrive in Indy and will be finished before the other groups.

The pre-draft scouting consensus puts Foreman outside the top five running backs available. The big names are LSU’s Leonard Fournette, Florida State’s Dalvin Cook, Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey, Tennessee’s Alvin Kamara and Oklahoma’s Joe Mixon. The NFL didn’t invite Mixon to the combine because of his legal issues from 2014 and it’s unclear how much those problems will plague him as teams solidify their draft boards.

A three-round mock draft on NFL.com slots Foreman at No. 78 overall.
