Another hole opened on the right side of Texas’ offensive line on Tuesday.
Brandon Hodges, a senior who started nine games last season at right tackle, has announced that he intends to transfer. The 6-5, 310-pound lineman will join a new team as a graduate transfer, which means he’ll be able to play immediately.
Hodges, who was signed as a junior college transfer in 2015 out of East Mississippi Community College, redshirted in 2015.

Hodges missed some practices and the spring game earlier this year, though “focusing on academics” was the reason given by Texas.
Hodges now becomes the seventh player to depart UT this off-season. Linebacker Erick Fowler, defensive linemen Jordan Elliott (Missouri) and Marcel Southall (Tyler JC) and tight end Peyton Aucion (Mississippi Delta CC) also will transfer. Wide receiver Jake Oliver graduated and forfeited his final season of eligibility. Third-string quarterback Matthew Merrick also left the team during spring practices.
The Longhorns already are looking for a new right guard following the graduation of Kent Perkins. Senior Tristan Nickelson was the only other Longhorn to start at right tackle in 2016. Sophomore Denzel Okafor also could be an option, and incoming freshman Samuel Cosmi was a right tackle at Atascocita High.
