Ariel Atkins, Brooke McCarty and Jatarie White are all attempting to make the women’s U23 national basketball team at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The camp lasts through Friday, Aug. 4 when 12 players will be named to the squad. Those that make the team will compete at the U23 Four Nations Tournament from Aug. 12-15 in Tokyo, Japan.
The participants of the camp will be divided into four groups and participate in round-robin competition, including bronze and gold medal games.
Players selected for the team will train in Colorado Springs until Aug. 7.
Team USA, Australia, Canada and Japan will participate in the U23 Four Nations Tournament.
Longhorns head basketball coach Karen Aston will help select the 12 players as a member of the USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team Committee.
On Sunday, two other Longhorns finished up action at the U19 World Cup in Udine, Italy as they helped Team USA earn a silver medal. The U.S. lost to Russia 86-82 in a back-and-forth contest.
Alecia Sutton had 11 points and three rebounds in the contest while Joyner Holmes had seven rebounds and four points. For the tournament, Holmes led Team USA with 8.7 rebounds per game. She added nine points per game. Sutton started every game and averaged eight points and 3.1 rebounds.
