Emily Clark hit a two-out grand slam in the seventh inning as the No. 21 Ohio State Buckeyes rallied past the Texas softball team to win 8-5 at the Texas Invitational on Saturday.

Texas split its two games on the day, defeating Virginia Tech 3-2 in the earlier contest.

Brooke Bolinger (2-2) took the loss after giving up Clark’s home run. She allowed four runs on three hits in 2 1/3 innings of relief.

Texas was led by Ki’Audra Hayter, who went 2-for-2 with a run scored. Paige von Sprecken, Kaitlyn Slack and Tuesday DerMargosian each had an RBI for Texas.

After trailing 2-0 in the first inning, the Longhorns appeared to take control of the contest with a five-run third frame.

Piper’s homer in the fifth pulled the Buckeyes to within a run, however.

The day started on a winning note for Texas. An RBI double by Janae Jefferson in the sixth inning lifted the Longhorns to a 3-2 win over Virginia Tech in the Longhorns’ first game.

After trailing 2-0, Texas got RBIs from Slack and Malory Schattle to tie the game in the fourth inning. Slack was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded before Schattle flied out to score MK Tedder.

Von Sprecken (3-1) allowed no runs on just two hits in 6 2/3 innings to earn the win in relief.

The Texas softball team faces Michigan on Sunday to close out the Texas Invitational.
