Four-star wide receiver Jake Smith includes Texas in his final two
Posted May 7th, 2018
It’s officially a two-team race for four-star wide receiver Jake Smith. The Notre Dame Preparatory (Ariz.) product announced Monday on Twitter that Texas and USC are the finalists for his eventual commitment. Smith is a 6-foot-1, 189-pound playmaker who is Texas’ top priority at the slot receiver position in the 2019 class.

He is the No. 105-ranked overall prospect in the country and holds 33 offers. Smith picked up an offer from the Texas staff during an unofficial visit to Austin on Dec. 14. Smith will play in the Under Armour All-America Game in Orlando after the completion of his senior season. Smith will take an official visit to USC on May 18 and Texas in June before picking a school.
Smith became the first player in Arizona since Christian Kirk in 2013 to rush and catch for more than 1,000 yards in a season when Smith accomplished the feat last season as junior. He scored 26 offensive touchdowns and averaged 14.5 yards per touch. Smith is also capable of helping in the return game.
Texas’ 2019 class consists of five members, including one wide receiver in Cuero four-star Jordan Whittington. The Longhorns hope to sign three more commitments in the cycle with prospects like Smith, Elijah Higgins and Dylan Wright leading the way.
