Texas women’s golf in 18th place at NCAA Championship

The Texas women’s golf team shot 309 on Friday in the first round of the NCAA Championship in Stillwater, Okla. The Longhorns are in 18th place after each of their golfers shot over par.

Jennifer Kupcho of Wake Forest holds the overall lead at 7 under par. Southern California holds the team lead at 291, 3 over par.

There are four rounds of stroke play, but the field shrinks to the top 15 teams before Monday’s final round. After the final round, the top eight teams advance to match play.

Sophia Schubert led Texas with a 75, 3 over par to tie for 35th. Freshman teammate Agathe Laisne shot 76 for 4 over par.

Emilee Hoffman and Kaitlyn Papp, Big 12 player and freshman of the year, sit tied at 88th after shooting 79, 7 over par.

Greta Isabella Voelker rounded out the Texas team at 11 over par.
