Texas men’s golf in fifth as NCAA Championships play suspended

Rain delayed the start of the men’s NCAA Championships and play was ultimately suspended due to darkness in Stillwater, Okla., on Friday.

The Texas men are currently in fifth on the leaderboard at 2 under par, but no Longhorn has played more than 13 holes.

Scottie Scheffler is 4 under par through 10 holes and tied for fifth to lead Texas.

Doug Ghim is even through nine holes and has a par putt set up for when play resumes on Saturday.

Steven Chervony is also even having completed 12 holes. He and Ghim sit tied for 37th.

Drew Jones sits tied for 80th at 2 over par through 13 holes. Spencer Soosman trails Jones by one shot at 3 over par through 11 holes. Soosman sits tied for 99th.

Northwestern completed its first round and is in first place at 8 under par, 280. Oklahoma is second at 5 under par with players yet to complete the first round. Texas Tech is a shot back in third with all of its players on the back nine of the first round.

After the third round of stroke play, the top 15 teams and nine individuals not on an advancing team will play in the fourth round Monday. The individual champion will be decided after the fourth round and the top eight teams will advance to the team match play quarterfinals.

The first round of the NCAA Championships resumes Saturday at 7 a.m. The second round will start immediately following completion of the first round.
