The Texas men’s golf team sits in a tie for ninth place at the NCAA Championship in Stillwater, Okla. through two rounds.
Texas finished its second round at 580, 4 over par. They trail first place Texas Tech by nine strokes.
Doug Ghim leads the Longhorns at 140, 4 under par. He followed up an even round Friday with a 3-under-par 69 on Saturday to sit in a tie for ninth.
Scottie Scheffler started strong with a 5-under-par first round. He faltered slightly in the second round, shooting 74 to sit a shot behind Ghim in a tie for 13th.
Also Saturday, the Golf Coaches Association of America named Ghim and Scheffler to the PING All-Region team. It’s the fourth straight year the two have earned the honor.
Steven Chervony shot 75 and 73 to sit at 148, 4 over par, tied for 68th. Spencer Soosman is 7 over par, and Drew Jones sits at 159, 15 over par.
Texas Tech leads overall at 5 under par. Oklahoma State is second at 4 under par. Alabama is a shot back in third after completing its second round.
After the third round of stroke play, the top 15 teams and nine individuals not on an advancing team will play in the fourth round Monday. The top eight teams will advance to the team match-play quarterfinals.
Brandon Mancheno of Auburn leads the individual competition at 6 under par, a shot ahead of six golfers tied for second. He’s just two shots ahead of Ghim.
