The Longhorns added to their contingent for the NCAA Championships as seven men, two women and both women’s relay teams qualified Saturday at the NCAA West Preliminaries in Sacramento, Calif.
That puts 11 women’s entries and nine men’s entries in the field June 6-9 at Eugene, Ore.
John Burt, a wide receiver on the football team, ran the 110-meter hurdles in 13.61 seconds, his second-best time ever, to win his heat and advance to the NCAAs for the third year in a row. He finished 17th there last year and 23rd as a freshman.
Other men’s qualifiers were Fabian Dohmann in the javelin, Micaiah Harris in the 200, Tripp Piperi in the shot put, Alex Rogers and Sam Worley in the 1,500, and O’Brien Wasome in the triple jump.
Pedrya Seymour automatically advanced by clocking the fastest time (12.80) in the quarterfinals of the women’s 100-meter hurdles. Sophomore Rushelle Burton qualified by taking third in her heat in 13.02.
Also making the NCAA field were the women’s 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams.
