Emilee Hoffman advances at U.S. Women’s Amateur

Texas junior golfer Emilee Hoffman won her match against Libby Winans of Oklahoma to advance at the U.S. Women’s Amateur in Kingston Springs, Tenn. Wednesday.

Hoffman defeated Winans on the 19th hole with a birdie after the two finished 18 rounds all square. Hoffman will face Isabella Fierro in the round of 32 Thursday at 8 a.m.

Hailee Cooper, an incoming Texas freshman, fell 2 and 1 to Sierra Brooks of Florida in the round of 64.


Hoffman finished the two-day, 36-hole stroke play competition tied for 33rd, shooting 141, 1 under par. Cooper tied for 39th after stroke play at 142.

Sophia Schubert, who just finished up her career at Texas, was the 2017 U.S. Amateur champion. Other former Texas golfers Michiko Hattori, Kelli Kuehne and Betty Jameson also won titles.
