The Texas Longhorns soccer team notched a 3-0 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to kick off action at Myers Stadium Friday.
Cyera Hintzen and Haley Berg, preseason All-Big 12 honorees, each scored in the exhibition victory. Berg also had two assists in the dominating win while Hintzen assisted on another goal.
“Well I think there is just a cohesion, a consistency, and an understanding,” head coach Angela Kelly said. “The beauty about it is that the core of our team is still really young. I was really pleased with the freshmen. It’s the first game of the season, and I think our freshmen really did a great job.”
Katie Glenn opened up the scoring for Texas, taking a pass from Hintzen to make it 1-0 in the 21st minute.
Texas dominated the game from end to end, taking 25 shots while allowing just two to the Islanders.
Berg scored in the 51st minute on assists from Glenn and Emma Regan. Hintzen notched her goal in the 64th minute on Berg’s second assist of the game.
The Longhorns soccer team opens the regular season Friday, Aug. 17 in Houston when it takes on Rice at 7 p.m.
