Texas soccer player Cyera Hintzen has been on fire to start the season and she’s earned multiple honors as a result.
Hintzen earned the honor of United Soccer Coaches Division I women’s national player of the week for Aug. 28, it was announced Tuesday.
The junior also was named the Big 12’s offensive player of the week in addition to earning an honorable mention to Top Drawer Soccer’s National Team of the Week.
Nicole Curry joined the junior forward as a Big 12 honoree this week. Curry earned the title of Big 12 defensive player of the week. It was Curry’s second time earning the honor.
It’s the third time Hintzen has been named to the Top Drawer team of the week. She earned spots on the team in Sept. and Nov. of 2017.
Hintzen has been named Big 12 offensive player of the week four times.
Hintzen has scored four goals through her first three games, including the a goal to lead the Longhorns to a draw with No. 4 North Carolina.
The forward also scored both goals, including the golden goal, during a 2-1 win over No. 23 Central Florida.
Hintzen scored in the first two minutes of the contest with North Carolina, notching the first of three goals she would score over the past week against two top-25 programs.
In Friday’s contest with Central Florida, Hintzen recorded a brace, accounting for all of the Longhorns’ goals. She scored the golden goal at 92 minutes, 38 seconds to end the game. It was her fifth career goal in the 82nd minute or later for Texas. She has eight match-winning goals and three golden goals, matching a program record.
Hintzen is on the MAC Herman Trophy watch list and is making her case early in the season.
The Longhorns play their first home game Thursday against Long Beach State at Myers Stadium at 7 p.m.
