The Texas volleyball team utilized a 5-0 run to finish off a tough match with TCU, remaining undefeated in conference in Fort Worth Wednesday night.
The Longhorns took the match 25-23, 25-22, 20-25, 18-25, 15-12 against a game Horned Frogs squad. Freshman Logan Eggleston made the match-ending kill after an ace by Jhenna Gabriel set up match point.
Micaya White led Texas(9-3, 4-0 Big 12) with 19 kills on a .254 hitting percentage. She notched a double-double with her 12 digs.
Eggleston had 17 kills and tied for the team lead with five blocks. Brionne Butler also had five blocks for Texas.
Ashley Shook set up 52 points for Texas while adding eight digs. Sydney Petersen led the Longhorns with 23 digs and added three aces.
The Longhorns went up two sets to none and seemed to be on the way to a sweep of TCU.
The Horned Frogs (10-5, 2-2) fought back, winning the next two games to set up a fifth set.
TCU’s élan McCall led all players with 24 kills as she hit .246.
The teams had nearly identical stats in the contest. Texas scored 78 points to TCU’s 77. The Horned Frogs had 62 kills while Texas had 61. Texas hit .210 while TCU hit .209.
One category the Horns held a clear advantage in was blocks. They had 11 team blocks while the Horned Frogs managed just six.
Texas played like the No. 4 team in the nation in the deciding set, hitting .500 on the way to the 15-12 victory. The Longhorns fell behind 12-10 before scoring five straight points to take the set and match.
The Texas volleyball squad next hosts Iowa State Saturday at 6 p.m.
