Texas linebacker Jeffrey McCulloch was involved in a single-car crash on Tuesday after his vehicle hydroplaned on a wet road and hit a light pole, UT coach Tom Herman said.

McCulloch was treated at the scene and went for more treatment at a local hospital. After complaining about neck soreness, McCulloch was expected to have a CT scan, the coach said.

“All early indications are that he should be OK,” Herman said after Tuesday’s practice. “He hydroplaned and hit a light pole. Single-car accident and want to make sure everything is OK.”

Also in injury news, Herman said quarterback Sam Ehlinger continues to make progress with his sprained right throwing shoulder.

“Pretty much right on schedule,” Herman said. “Three treatments a day. Pain is way down. Range of motion is up. On schedule.”

With this being a bye week, the coaching staff does not have to rush Ehlinger’s treatment or make a decision about whether backup Shane Buechele will start against Oklahoma State on Oct. 17.

“It’s kind of business as usual,” Herman said. “There’s never in our program been a ton of game plan preparation on the open week. Both of them will get the gist of their base defense and what we expect to see and have an idea mentally of who they are defensively. By Sunday and Monday, then we’ll have to make some harder decisions.”

The Longhorns will have Friday and Saturday off and return to practice Sunday. Herman is not scheduled to meet with reporters again until his regular weekly press conference at noon Monday.
