Texas veterans Kerwin Roach, Jericho Sims garner preseason All-Big 12 honors

Kansas State's Dean Wade named Big 12's preseason player of the year

Posted October 17th, 2018

Texas guard Kerwin Roach II and forward Jericho Sims both earned honorable mention preseason All-Big 12 honors, the league announced Wednesday.

Big 12 coaches voted on the awards, however they were not allowed to vote for their own players.

Roach led the Longhorns in steals (47) and was among the top five in most statistical categories last season. The senior enters this season just 41 points shy of scoring 1,000 for his UT career.

Sims played behind freshman Mo Bamba last season but made quite an impression with sheer athleticism. He blocked 18 shots and averaged 7.9 points and 6.3 rebounds in his 11 starts when Bamba was injured.

Kansas State’s Dean Wade, a steady long-range threat, was named the preseason player of the year. Kansas forward Dedric Lawson was named the preseason newcomer of the year while teammate Quentin Grimes was the preseason freshman of the year.

Wade, Lawson, Lindell Wigginton (Iowa State), Barry Brown Jr. (Kansas State) and Sagaba Konate (West Virginia) were named to the preseason All-Big 12 team.
