UT swimmers selected for World University Games

Eight Longhorns will represent the United States at the 2019 World University Games in Naples, Italy.

USA Swimming made the announcement Thursday that five men’s UT team members and three women from UT would compete at the event.

John Shebat and Sam Stewart will compete in the individual medley. Jeff Newkirk will swim the 800 freestyle relay.


Austin Katz, who won bronze at the Pan Pacific Championships during the summer, will swim the 200 back stroke. Tate Jackson will swim the 100 freestyle.

On the women’s side, Claire Adams will swim the 400 freestyle relay. Evie Pfeifer will compete in the 800 freestyle relay, the 200 and 400 IM. Grace Ariola will swim the 50 freestyle.

The UT men’s and women’s swimming teams begin the 2018-19 season with a dual meet against Florida and Indiana this weekend.
