The Texas men’s tennis team picked up eight wins in the round of 32 at the ITA Texas Regionals in Waco Saturday.
Five singles wins and three doubles victories highlighted the day for Texas.
Top-seeded Christian Sigsgaard defeated Eduard Simo of UT-Arlington 6-1, 6-2. Sigsgaard will face Bjorn Thomson of Texas Tech Sunday at noon.
Yuya Ito also won, topping Jonathan Sheehy of Abilene Christian 6-3, 6-1. Ito is set to face Barnaby Smith of Texas A&M at noon.
Harrison Scott, seeded fifth, won 6-4, 6-2 over Kevin Lam of Texas A&M. Scott next takes on Sumit Sarkar of Rice Sunday at noon.
Rodrigo Banzer also took a straight-sets victory, 6-0, 6-2, over Jacob Eskeland of Rice. Banzer will take on Ilgiz Valiev of Texas Tech Sunday at noon.
Chih Chi Huang upset 13th-seeded Tommy Mylnikov of Texas Tech, 1-6, 6-3, 6-1. Huang next takes on Bertus Kruger of TCU at noon Sunday.
In doubles, Sigsgaard and Scott topped a team from Incarnate Word 8-3.
Ito and Colin Markes teamed up to defeat a duo from Abilene Christian 8-2.
Banzer and Huang made it 3 for 3 for the Texas doubles teams as they won 8-7 (5) over Eduardo Roldan and Kruger of TCU.
All three doubles teams play in the round of 16 Sunday at 9 a.m.
