The Texas volleyball team won its third match in a row, sweeping Iowa State 25-19, 25-19, 25-14 in Ames, Iowa Wednesday night.
Micaya White and freshman Logan Eggleston each had 12 kills to lead Texas to the win. Eggleston had just one attacking error as she hit .458 on the night. She added four digs and two blocks.
White had eight digs and made four blocks. Brionne Butler led Texas with five blocks. She added seven kills and hit .583 on the night.
Ashley Shook had 31 assists to go with nine digs. Sydney Petersen led Texas with 16 digs while Autumn Rounsaville added 10 digs of her own.
The teams were tied up at 13-all in the first set before Texas went on a 3-0 run to take the lead. Iowa State hung around until they pulled to within two points, trailing 21-19. From there the Longhorns closed out the set on a 4-0 run.
The Longhorns built a 6-2 lead to start the second game, but the Cyclones took an 11-10 lead on a service ace by Izzy Enna. Texas went on a 6-2 run to regain the lead and control of the set. A bad set and a service error by Iowa State came a few plays before Yaazie Bedart-Ghani put the game away for Texas. She ended up with eight kills.
The final set had Texas starting strong, getting out to a 7-1 lead. The Longhorns cruised most of the way and won seven of the final nine points to take the win. Morgan Johnson’s seventh kill clinched the match.
The Texas volleyball team is set to return home for four straight conference matches, including a rematch with Kansas. The Jayhawks topped Texas on Oct. 10 to give the Longhorns their only conference loss so far this season.
