Posted October 26th, 2018

The Longhorns cross-country teams competed in the Big 12 Championships on Friday, with the men taking third place and the women fifth.

Destiny Collins took fourth in the women’s 6K to earn All-Big 12 honors. She finished the race in 20 minutes, 06.7 seconds for a season-best time.

“I was really proud of the race that Destiny had to earn All-Big 12 honors with a strong fourth-place finish,” women’s coach PattiSue Plumer said. “Although a fifth-place team finish was not what we had hoped for, several women had strong races today.”

Alex Cruz finished in 17th with a time of 21:02.1. Madeline Vondra took 21st with a time of 21:06.09 while Meghan Lloyd clocked in at 21:23.7 for 30th place.

In the men’s 8K, Alex Rogers finished seventh, Sam Worley eighth and John Rice 14th to earn All-Big 12 honors. Rogers finished in 23:54.4, a season-best mark. Worley clocked in at 24:06.4 while Rice finished in 24:30.1.

“That was a solid day,” men’s coach Pete Watson said. “The boys competed well as a team and we made another step forward as we prepare for the 10k at the Regional meet and NCAA Championships.”
