Texas gained national letters of intent from 21 of its current 22 commitments in the early morning hours of Wednesday. The only player electing to wait until national signing day in February is four-star offensive tackle Javonne Shepherd of North Forest. The Longhorns inked 19 of their 21 commitments during the early signing period in 2018, which was the first of its kind for football players.

Texas’ class is headlined by offensive tackle Tyler Johnson, wide receivers Jake Smith and Jordan Whittington, and outside linebacker De’Gabriel Floyd. Ten of the 20 signees were from out of state with two JUCO defenders signing with the Longhorns. The major hole remaining is along the offensive line, especially if Shepherd waivers over the next six weeks.

Running back is the position to watch this afternoon with IMG Academy teammates Noah Cain and Trey Sanders picking live on ESPN2, though the hope is slowly evaporating for the Longhorns to add a second running back to four-star Derrian Brown. Cain is favored to pick Penn State, while Sanders is likely headed to Georgia.
