Posted March 10th, 2018

Texas took a step towards signing the best player in Texas for the second straight cycle on Saturday when 5-star wide receiver Jordan Whittington chose the Longhorns over UCLA, Texas A&M and Florida. Whittington becomes the third member of Texas’ 2019 class, joining 4-star quarterback Roschon Johnson and 3-star defensive end T’Vondre Sweat.

Whittington held 30 offers and is the No. 1-ranked player on the Fabulous 55. The Cuero native is the No. 26-ranked player in the country and the No. 4-ranked wide receiver in the 2019 cycler, per 247Sports Composite. The 6-foot-1, 198-pound prospect is the reigning two-time District 15-4A MVP. He earned first-team all-district honors at wide receiver and safety as a freshman.

He’ll play slot receiver and return kicks and punts in college. Whittington’s prep career involves nearly every position except for the offensive and defensive line. He’s accounted for more than 2,500 total yards on offense and recorded nine interceptions in the past two seasons. Including defensive and special teams touchdowns, Whittington has scored 44 touchdowns since his sophomore season.

Texas wants to sign at least three wide receivers in the 2019 class. The top remaining targets are Austin natives Garrett Wilson of Lake Travis and Elijah Higgins of Austin Bowie.
