Texas target Elijah Higgins breaks down current recruiting status

Posted June 16th, 2018

Local standout Elijah Higgins is on a trip around the southeast visiting programs. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound wide receiver from Austin Bowie visited Florida and Auburn over the past few days and is set to stop by Ole Miss and Arkansas before returning home. He’ll take an official visit to Ohio State on June 22.

The Buckeyes were once among a trio of top schools which included Texas and Stanford. The four-star wide receiver who earned an invite to The Opening Finals at the end of the month, recently took another visit to Texas. Higgins, who ranks No. 23 on the Fabulous 55, was able to dig deeper into his possible future if he sticks near home.

“I got to sit down with (Tim) Beck and (Drew) Mehringer and really get into detail about how they see me fitting into the mold and being a weapon in the offense similar to (Lil’Jordan Humphrey),” Higgins said. “I’ll be narrowing my schools down within the next few weeks.”

Texas holds commitments from two wide receivers in the 2019 class. Both commits, Jordan Whittington and Jake Smith, are considered slot receivers with the ability to move outside if necessary. Higgins is a true outside weapon with the body to become a mismatch vertically and in the end zone. The Longhorns extended three new offers at wide receiver within the last month and hope to sign four wide receivers if the right combination is available.
