Four-star linebacker David Gbenda commits to Texas over Texas A&M, TCU

Posted September 30th, 2018

The Longhorns wanted a third linebacker in the 2019 class and defensive coordinator Todd Orlando stayed in-state to land David Gbenda, a four-star inside linebacker from Katy Cinco Ranch. Gbenda picked up an offer from Texas in March and focused on in-state schools like Texas, TCU and Texas A&M before pulling the trigger during his senior season. The 6-foot, 212-pounder is a member of the Fabulous 55 and ranked as the No. 11 inside linebacker in the 2019 class. He held 24 offers.

Gbenda joins outside linebackers De’Gabriel Floyd and Marcus Tillman Jr. as the linebacker core in the 2019 class. His commitment likely closes the door on any other prep linebacker targets. If Orlando and Texas decide to add another number it likely comes from the JUCO ranks. Gbenda is commitment No. 18 of Texas’ 2019 class, which now ranks comfortably inside the top 10 in the nation.
