Texas legacy Sam Saxton to walk-on at Texas, play quarterback
Posted January 17th, 2019
Family trumps nearly everything and three-star quarterback Sam Saxton grew up knowing where his family’s loyalty lies in college football. The grandson of former Texas great James Saxton and the son of former UT player Jimmy Saxton, Sam carved his own niche as a quarterback in the Austin area. The 6-5, 190-pound quarterback finished his career at St. Michael’s Academy after spending time at Westlake and Austin High. He’s the No. 38-ranked pro-style quarterback in the 2019 class, per 247Sports composite rankings.

Sam joins four-star Roschon Johnson as the quarterbacks in the 2019 class. The Longhorns suddenly need depth at the position with the expected departures of Shane Buechele and Cam Rising, as well as the possibility that Casey Thompson looks around for playing time at another school with Sam Ehlinger anchored as the starter for the next two seasons.
