Longhorns compete on first day of Charlie Thomas Invitational

Four Longhorns competed on the first day of the Charlie Thomas Invitational in College Station Friday.

Madeline Vondra led the Texas runners in the 5,000 meters, finishing fourth with a time of 16 minutes, 58.69 seconds. Marissa Flournoy took seventh with a time of 17:39.52 while Olivia Thompson finished ninth at 17:53.52.

Virginia Preiss took fifth place in the pentathlon, scoring 3,589 points in her first pentathlon competition of the season. Preiss began the competition with a personal best in the 60-meter hurdles. She took third in the event with a time of 8.85. Preiss took fourth in the high jump, eighth in the shot put and seventh in the long jump. She closed out with a second-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:23.10.

The sprinters, hurdlers, horizontal jumpers and throwers will compete Saturday at the invitational.
