Texas men’s tennis defeats No. 6 North Carolina

The No. 8 Texas men’s tennis team earned the doubles point and won four singles matches to defeat No. 6 North Carolina at the Weller Indoor Tennis Center Saturday.

Chih Chi Huang clinched the win for the Longhorns, defeating Blayne Boyden 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (5). The teams played out the remainder matches and Texas won 5-2 overall.

Huang and Yuya Ito teamed up to give the Longhorns their first win, defeating Brian Cernoch and Mac Kiger 6-2. Colin Markes and Leonardo Telles clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Boyden and Simon Soendergaard.


Harrison Scott got Texas rolling in singles action, beating Josh Peck 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 to put Texas up 2-1.

After dropping his first set, Telles defeated Cernoch 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 to make it 3-1 for Texas.

After Huang clinched, the teams split the final two singles contests.
